ANIMAL DENTISTS

Did you know that not only people need dentists? Animals also have toothaches and then they need a dentist, too. The difference is that people are usually scared of the doctor but in this case the doctor is sometimes afraid of the patient. 

Animal dentists do checkups, fillings, and other dental work on any animal that needs that. 

Animals really need good teeth to build homes, catch fish and defend themselves. If they have bad teeth, this can make it impossible to live a normal life. Animals in zoos have dental problems because of what they eat, or don't eat. Animals in captivity don't chew bones as often as they would in the wild. Therefore, they don't clean their teeth naturally. So, they have dental diseases more often. They also live longer, which means that their teeth have to last longer. So, at zoos animals have regular dental checkups.
